Motorola has officially announced the MPx100, a Windows powered smart phone that will include Bluetooth and a high-quality digital camera.
The MPx100 will use the traditional "candy bar" form-factor and will have a 176-by-220 pixel screen. Directly below the display will be a small D-pad, necessary because Windows powered smart phones don't use touchscreens. On the left side will be a miniSD slot.
It will run Windows Mobile for Smartphone, though which version of this is not yet known. Also not yet available is the MPx100's amount of RAM and processor speed, though it's expected to use a Motorola chip.
It will include Bluetooth, thereby allowing the user to wear a wireless headset. Motorola also said that Wi-Fi could be added via an optional accessory. It's not clear what form this will take, as no company has yet announced a miniSD Wi-Fi card.
This will be a tri-band GSM/GPRS device that offers the ability to access email and the Web, make phone calls, play games, and run other types of applications.
It will offer a 1.3 megapixel camera and flash. Users will be able to send pictures through MMS messages.
Motorola says the MPx100 is expected to be available in the second half of 2004.
This announcement was made at the 3GSM World Congress 2004, going on now in Cannes.
